Turner Construction Company and the University of Kansas celebrated the completion of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas, marking a significant milestone in the University’s Gateway District development. The opening was commemorated by the Kansas football team holding its first official practice on the newly completed field. Turner provided preconstruction and construction services for the project, which transformed the stadium into a modern, multi-purpose venue. The reconstruction included the partial demolition and rebuild of the stadium structure, new press boxes, club and premium suites, concessions, retail space, and a dynamic fan experience zone. A key highlight is the creation of a new campus gateway at 11th and Mississippi Street, serving as a welcoming entrance to the University and surrounding community. The project also included renovations and an addition to the team offices and training spaces at the Anderson Family Football Complex, originally built by Turner in 2008, reinforcing the company’s long-standing relationship with the University. Designed as a year-round destination, the upgraded stadium will support not only athletic events but also conferences, entertainment, retail, and dining, contributing to regional economic development and the University’s academic mission. The new gateway fosters greater connectivity between campus and community while elevating the University’s national profile.
