Acquisition strengthens HOCHTIEF's position in the energy infrastructure market and expands capabilities across the power transmission value chain
HOCHTIEF has agreed to acquire Autmatec, a leading German specialist in the construction, refurbishment and installation of transmission line infrastructure.
The acquisition represents another step in HOCHTIEF's strategy to grow its presence in markets driven by powerful long-term investment trends, including energy infrastructure and grid modernisation.
Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, Autmatec delivers end-to-end services across the overhead transmission line value chain, serving major transmission and distribution network operators. The company generated approximately €50 million in revenue in 2026 and employs around 80 highly skilled specialists, providing HOCHTIEF with immediate access to critical capabilities, customer relationships and certifications in one of Europe's fastest-growing infrastructure markets.
The transaction significantly strengthens HOCHTIEF's position in Germany's transmission grid market, where investment is accelerating to support electrification, renewable energy integration and energy security. Europe's grid operators are planning substantial long-term investment programs, creating sustained demand for specialist transmission infrastructure expertise.
Autmatec complements the capabilities of HOCHTIEF Infrastructure and HOCHTIEF Engineering by adding transmission line construction expertise to HOCHTIEF's existing engineering, civil works and project delivery strengths. Together, the businesses will be able to provide clients with a more integrated engineering, procurement and construction management offering across the transmission infrastructure lifecycle.
ACS Group and HOCHTIEF CEO Juan Santamaría said: "The acquisition of Autmatec is fully aligned with our strategy of investing in high-growth infrastructure markets that benefit from long-term structural demand. Energy infrastructure is one of the defining investment themes of our time and modern, resilient electricity networks are essential to that transformation.”
HOCHTIEF Infrastructure CEO Peter Hingott said: "Autmatec brings specialist expertise, strong customer relationships and a highly skilled workforce. By combining Autmatec's transmission line capabilities with HOCHTIEF's engineering excellence, scale and delivery expertise, we are able to support customers as they expand and modernise critical energy infrastructure across Germany and Europe."
Autmatec’s existing leadership team will continue to lead the business, supporting its next phase of growth as part of the HOCHTIEF Group.
The transaction underlines HOCHTIEF’s commitment to its German business, where its order book has doubled over the past four years, and further strengthens the Group’s ability to capture opportunities arising from the government’s €500 billion infrastructure investment plan.
Autmatec will benefit from access to HOCHTIEF's resources, customer network and project delivery platform. The combination is expected to enhance access to larger projects, broaden market coverage and strengthen the Group's position in power transmission infrastructure.
The transaction is subject to German Federal Cartel Office merger control clearance.
